The medicinal value of gecko, a traditional species, was first discovered in the Ming Dynasty in China. However, research on the medicinal value of their molts is relatively limited. For the purpose of protecting gecko and exploring richer medicinal values, this project compares and analyzes the amino acid content of gecko molts (including albino species) with snake molts and cicada molts, aiming to explore its medicinal value.
By comparing the amino acid content of normal gecko molts with snake molts and cicada molts, it was found that the amino acid composition of normal gecko molts was closer to that of snake molts. Moreover, the content of serine, glutamic acid, glycine, and alanine in gecko molts are higher than that of snake molts. Glutamic acid is an amino acid species not found in snake slough.
Comparison of albino gecko molts with normal gecko molts and snake molts showed that the contents of major amino acids in albino gecko molts are 2.82 times (serine) to 7.64 times (taurine) higher than those in normal gecko molts, and 1.83 times (taurine) to 10.63 times (glycine) higher than those in snake molts. These results indicate that albino gecko molts have higher medicinal value than normal gecko molts.
This study explored the medicinal value of gecko molts and their albino varieties through comparative analysis, providing a basis for enriching human drug research and helping to protect geckos.
